THE 4 BEST REASONS TO CONSIDER BREAST IMPLANT REVISION
It’s a common misconception among breast augmentation patients that breast implant revision is almost always performed as a result of implant rupture. In fact, most of the patients that I see for breast implant revision elect to undergo revision surgery for reasons completely unrelated to implant failure, whether for a placement issue or simply to maintain a youthful appearance. Here’s a closer look at four of the best reasons to consider breast implant revision.
1. CHANGE IN SIZE
Women with breast implants may decide to swap out their implants for a different size after some time enjoying their original size choice. Lifestyle changes, weight fluctuations or simply desiring a different look can all warrant a size update, whether that means going larger or smaller.
2. SWAP SALINE FOR SILICONE (OR VICE VERSA)
With modern implant styles constantly being updated for improved augmentation results, women with older implants may decide to switch to newer ones. Additionally, some women’s bodies respond better to one implant type than another. This can mean swapping saline implants for silicone, or vice versa.
3. CORRECT IMPLANT MALPOSITION
Implant malposition can be caused by incorrect implant placement or the implant pocket becoming too large. Malposition can be detected by breasts that are too close together (synmastia), too far apart (lateral displacement), or that have shifted too low on the torso (bottoming out).
4. TREAT CAPSULAR CONTRACTURE
Capsular contracture occurs when the scar tissue that forms around an implant becomes overly hardened, resulting in implants that feel hard or even sore to the touch. Capsular contracture can be corrected by removing the hardened scar tissue before replacing the implant.
